Biden Policy Chief Allegedly Violated Hatch Act Repeatedly

It should come as no surprise that yet another Biden official has been accused of breaking the law.

It should also come as no surprise that the person being accused is Neera Tanden, Biden’s Domestic Policy Chief.

According to the Office of the Special Counsel (OSC), she has allegedly repeatedly violated the Hatch Act.

Hatch Act Violations

For those of you unfamiliar, the Hatch Act was passed in 1939 to prevent employees of the federal government from engaging in political activities in their official roles.

The only government officials exempt from the law are the president and vice president.

The law was passed after Democrats were accused of using Works Progress Administration (WPA) employees to influence votes on legislation.

While there are always a few violations reported during each administration, this law, for all intents and purposes, was shelved until Donald Trump took office.

During Trump’s administration, the number of possible violations nearly tripled from past administrations, and that scrutiny continued during the Biden administration.

Tanden has been controversial from the outset, having previously been denied a post in the Biden administration that required Senate approval.

After her nomination was withdrawn, Biden hand-picked her for a post that did not require Senate approval.

Since then, she has come under fire for alleged repeated violations, and the OSC has confirmed that it concurs with the complaints.

The OSC stated, “Tanden knowingly solicited political contributions by posting or reposting requests for financial contributions to the campaigns of candidates for partisan political office.”

The White House responded to the charges, “The White House and Ms. Tanden take compliance with the Hatch Act seriously. As soon as these retweets — which primarily consisted of non-fundraising content — were brought her to attention, she appropriately deleted them. The White House is reviewing the complaint.

“However, as recently as November 2021, the Office of Special Counsel stated that there are ‘significant constitutional concerns’ with the MSPB disciplining White House commissioned officers, and that it was ‘legally required’ to refer such matters to the President.”

This woman is an activist, and has always seemingly considered herself above scrutiny, so it is nice to see her finally called out for her actions.

While I wish I could say there would be some significant punishment, it is likely we will only have the embarrassment to satisfy us with only two months left in office for Biden.
