Joe Biden was supposed to be headed to Florida on Tuesday.
He was to make an appearance in Orlando but that will not be happening.
Biden used the Ian storm as his excuse to cancel the event.
Ian Gaining Strength
Ian has been picking up strength and it is expected to crush Florida when it hits land.
Forecasters expect the storm to be a Category 3 or 4 by the time it lands.
Biden has been scheduled to appear on Tuesday in Orlando.
On Saturday, in addition to the trip being canceled, Biden approved the request for a state of emergency to be requested.
This will enable the Department of Homeland Security and the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) to get the ball rolling on the anticipated recovery efforts that will be needed.
DeSantis also warned residents to get ready for the storm.
DeSantis stated, "This storm has the potential to strengthen into a major hurricane and we encourage all Floridians to make their preparations.
"We are coordinating with all state and local government partners to track potential impacts of this storm."
Tropical Storm Ian is expected to strengthen into a hurricane and approach the Florida Gulf Coast mid-week.
Floridians should take precautions.
