Biden Admin Launches Program to Allow Americans to Sponsor Refugees

The Biden administration announced on Thursday a new program that will allow Americans to directly sponsor refugees.

The State Department program is designed to help refugees build relationships and better transition to life in America.

"The State Department program, Welcome Corps, will allow groups of private American citizens to sponsor refugees through the Refugee Resettlement Program if they raise enough money, pass background checks and come up with a plan on how to support them," Fox News reported.

"The pilot program which will require groups of at least five people to raise a minimum of $2,275 in cash and in-kind contributions per refugee to secure their initial needs before they can gain employment," it added.

The program follows a model used in Canada, a nation known for its open arms to large numbers of refugees.

"The program will aim to find U.S. sponsors for 5,000 refugees in fiscal year 2023, which ends on Sept. 30, another of the sources said," according to Newsmax.

"The individual sponsorship program for refugees — similar to a model used in Canada — is part of a broader effort by President Joe Biden to provide opportunities for Americans to support foreigners seeking protection," it added.

The move follows the Biden administration's announcement to allow entry for 30,000 migrants monthly from Cuba, Haiti, Nicaragua and Venezuela if they have sponsors.

The president announced the move in conjunction with his recent trip to El Paso at the southern border.

The plan for refugees may sound helpful but looks to do little to help America deal with its border crisis and concerns of national security.
