Ben Shapiro suggests Trump pardon Derek Chauvin

Conservative mouthpiece Ben Shapiro just took a massive stick to a hornet's nest that will have Democrats and liberals up in arms.

Shapiro believes that Trump should pardon Derek Chauvin, the Minneapolis Police Officer who was convicted in the death of George Floyd.

Shapiro has a petition going, outlining how he believes Chauvin was a victim of public pressure from Democrats and the media.

Set Him Free

If you recall, Chauvin was one of several officers called to the scene after Floyd tried to pay with a counterfeit bill.

Floyd was clearly panicked, even saying he could not breathe when nobody was around him and he was just sitting in the car.

Chauvin subdued Floyd, with video and pictures of his knee on Floyd’s back and neck area. Floyd eventually stopped breathing, and Chauvin was charged for having killed Floyd using unnecessary force.

Shapiro believes he was unjustly convicted, writing, “We write to urge you to immediately issue a pardon for Officer Derek Chauvin, who was unjustly convicted and is currently serving a 22-and-a-half year sentence for the murder of George Floyd and associated federal charges.”

Chauvin was convicted in two different trials. One was for the second-degree unintentional murder of Floyd, while the second was for depriving Floyd and a 14-year-old girl of their constitutional rights.

Shapiro continued, “Make no mistake—the Derek Chauvin conviction represents the defining achievement of the Woke movement in American politics.  The country cannot turn the page on that dark, divisive, and racist era without righting this terrible wrong.

“Thank you for your commitment to ending the weaponization of the American justice system.”

This will be a tough call for Trump if he decides to take it on. Keep in mind, Trump has brought on a pardon czar, so it will be interesting to see if she comments on this.

I can tell you this… based on the months of rioting that took place after the death of George Floyd, my money would be on months of rioting taking place again if Trump issues this pardon.

Was Chauvin over-sentenced in this case? Should he have been prosecuted at all? I am just glad I am not the one making that call.
