AZ Democrat Gov. Katie Hobbs takes aim at Biden over border concerns

In a high-profile departure from the president who leads her party, Arizona Democrat Gov. Katie Hobbs has once again blasted Joe Biden and his administration for failing to take action to stem the tide of illegal arrivals at the southern border, as Breitbart reports.

Hobbs' critique came during a recent interview that aired on CNN's NewsNight, when she was asked for her opinion on reports that the president is contemplating executive actions to address the growing crisis.

Hobbs holds forth

In response to an inquiry into the aforementioned reports, Hobbs lamented that a Senate-backed border bill failed to secure passage in the House but did not hold back in placing blame at the administration's doorstep.

The governor declared that action from the White House is critical and long overdue, and that it is time for officials to take steps to bring about much needed reform.

CNN personality Abby Phillip inquired of Hobbs, “When you hear that President Biden might prevent people who cross the border illegally from seeking asylum in an effort to reduce the flow, is that what you're looking for?”

Hobbs replied, “We need something. And we are dealing with decades of the inaction from both Republican and Democratic administrations, and now, certainly, Congress for refusing to pass this bipartisan legislation that was presented.”

“Americans want sanity and an end to the lawlessness at the border,” Hobbs asserted.

Not her first time

Despite her status as a high-ranking Democrat, Hobbs has been surprisingly consistent in recent months with regard to her take on the administration's inaction on border issues.

As Reuters noted late last year, Hobbs ordered National Guard troops to the southern border with Mexico, announcing that the administration's decision to close an existing -- legal -- port of entry within Arizona had “led to an unmitigated humanitarian crisis.”

In a press release discussing the move, Hobbs said, “Yet again, the federal government is refusing to do its job to secure our border and keep our communities safe.”

“With this Executive Order, I am taking action where the federal government won't,” Hobbs said at the time. “But we can't stand alone. Arizona needs resources and manpower to reopen the Lukeville crossing, manage the flow of migrants, and maintain a secure, orderly and humane border.”

She went on, “Despite continued requests for assistance, the Biden administration has refused to deliver desperately needed resources to Arizona's border,” in what was a devastating rebuke to a presumed politically ally on the cusp of a pivotal re-election bid.
