Arrest Made in Rachel Morin Murder Case
Last year, the entire country was horrified when the death of Rachel Morin was reported.
Morin was a mother of five children who was found brutally murdered near a hiking trail in August of last year.
Police have finally taken a suspect into custody… and it just happens to be another illegal immigrant.
We Got Him
On Saturday, Harford County Sheriff Jeffery Gahler announced they finally had someone in custody.
Victor Antonio Martinez-Hernandez was arrested over the weekend in Tulsa, OK.
He has been charged with first-degree murder and first-degree rape.
Sheriff Gahler stated, "Five hours after meeting with [Morin's] family and just before midnight our time, police in Tulsa Oklahoma assisted by our federal partners located and arrested Rachel's murderer: Victor Antonio Martinez-Hernandez.”
According to Gahler, the suspect crossed the border illegally in February 2023, and he does not believe this was his only victim.
Gahler added, "It is my understanding that this suspect, this monster, fled to the United States after the murder of a young woman in El Salvador a month earlier in January of 2023.
"Once in our country, he brutally attacked a nine-year-old girl and her mother in a home invasion in March of 2023 in Los Angeles."
The case in Los Angeles is what enabled law enforcement to link the two crimes, using DNA samples to pinpoint the assailant.
Police were also able to obtain video surveillance of Martinez-Hernandez, which gave them a description, but still no name.
The DNA samples, however, led them to Martinez-Hernandez’s family in El Salvador, which is how they were ultimately able to identify him.
Maryland State's Attorney for Harford County Alison Healey will be prosecuting the case.
Healey stated, "Harford County and our neighboring communities can rest assured that my office will take all steps necessary to ensure that justice is served for Rachel Morin and her family."
Sounds like a death penalty case if there ever was one.
