Arkansas Gov. Sarah Huckabee Sanders Bans CRT in Schools

Arkansas Gov. Sarah Huckabee Sanders (R) launched a series of executive actions on her first day in office Tuesday, including a ban against teaching critical race theory in schools.

Sanders, the state's first female governor and the youngest governor in the nation, made the move as part of her focus on education.

As long as I am governor, our schools will focus on the skills our children need to get ahead in the modern world, not brainwashing our children with a left-wing political agenda," Sanders said, vowing to be "Arkansas' education governor."

We will improve literacy for our youngest students. We will reward our teachers with higher pay. And we will empower parents with more choices so that no child is ever trapped in a failing school or sentenced to a lifetime in poverty," she added.

The order was one among seven Sanders signed on Tuesday, including a ban on the gender-neutral term Latinx in state government documents.

"'Ethnically insensitive and pejorative language has no place in official government documents or government employee titles,' the order said. It cited a 2020 Pew Research Center poll that found 3% of Hispanic Americans used Latinx, while 76% had not ever heard of the term," Just the News reported.

"Arkansas also joined the nearly two dozen states with TikTok bans with Sanders' executive order banning the video app from government devices," it added.

The executive orders offered a strong start to the governor's work in her first day in office. Sanders steps into the role of her father, former Gov. Mike Huckabee, living in the governor's home that she lived in as a child.

The familiar setting appears to come with familiar policymaking as well, with her conservative values reflecting Huckabee's past.

Huckabee Sanders has made good on her vow to emphasize education on day one as well in the beginning of many moves to improve the focus of the state.
