Arizona state Senate candidate killed in vehicle crash

A Democratic Arizona Senate candidate has died in a horrific crash.

John McLean was 68-years-old when he lost his life at the hands of a drunk driver.

27-year-old Michael Martin Creel was arrested after he allegedly failed to stop at an intersection and smashed into McLean’s vehicle.

Creel is now in jail being held on manslaughter and aggravated DUI charges.

McLean did not even make it to the hospital, dying at the scene of the crash.

Since news of McLean’s passing has spread, the Arizona Senate Democrats have released a touching statement on his death.

The group posted on X, the platform formerly known as Twitter, where they publicly grieved the loss of McLean.

“We are heartbroken to hear about the passing of LD17 Senate Candidate John McLean. He spent his final days fighting for a better Arizona and we could not be more thankful for his work and dedication to our great state. We extend our deepest sympathies to John’s family and loved ones,” Arizona Senate Democrats wrote.

The Republican candidate that was running against McLean has also released a statement on the horrific news.

Vince Leach wrote that his “thoughts and prayers are with the McLean family for their tragic loss today.”

“John was a good man who conducted himself honorably as a candidate. My deepest condolences go out to John’s family and friends in this most difficult time,” Leach continued.

Arizona Governor Katie Hobbs also posted a heartfelt message about McLean on X.

“John was a true public servant who cared deeply about Arizona. He always wanted to do what was best for his community, and he will be remembered for that. This is a tragic loss, and my heart breaks for his family and loved ones. Sending all my love to those who knew him,” Hobbs wrote.

You do not have to agree with McLean’s political views to agree with the fact that McLean spent his time on earth trying to make a difference.

We commend McLean for all he worked toward during his time on earth and pray for anyone grieving the loss of his absence.
