AOC launches bid for party's top role on House Oversight Committee

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (AOC) has officially made the decision to attempt to gain control of the top Democratic role of the House committee.

The role in which AOC has expressed interest would take point investigating various claims and issues with the federal government.

AOC disclosed her recent decision in a letter she wrote to lawmakers.

She went on to say that her fight would be against President Donald Trump’s administration.

“This is not a position I seek lightly. The responsibility of leading Democrats on the House Oversight Committee during Donald Trump’s second term in the White House is a profound and consequential one,” Ocasio-Cortez wrote in the letter.

She did not stop there.

“Now, more than ever, we must focus on the Committee’s strong history of both holding administrations accountable and taking on the economic precarity and inequality that is challenging the American way of life,” AOC continued to write.

The man currently holding the position AOC wants is Rep. Jamie Raskin, a Democrat from Maryland.

Her decision likely startled Raskin, considering that just days prior, Raskin announced he wanted to remain in his role.

AOC's real competition, however, will be Rep. Gerry Connolly, a Democrat from Virginia, as Raskin is now favored to become ranking member on the Judiciary Committee instead.

While AOC is planning to duke it out with Connolly for the top Democrat role, the biggest fight she may have is attempting to justify the poor management of the neighborhoods that trusted her to take care of their communities.

Those who follow AOC’s time serving in her position know just how disastrous of a job the representative has done.

AOC’s district has developed into a true slum during her time in office.

Those living in the area AOC was supposed to show up and fight for have been disgusted with how little she has proven to care.

Now, she wants to take on an even bigger role before she has ever proved she can handle her current responsibilities.

Do you think AOC has any chance at securing the position?
