Anti-Trump House Candidate Advances in WA Primary
The number of anti-Trump House members is now almost down to nothing, but there are still a few of them poking around.
One of them is Rep. Dan Newhouse (R-WA), who just advanced in his primary race.
Newhouse was among the small group of Republicans who voted in favor of impeaching Trump.
Will He Win
Newhouse is hoping to win his sixth term representing the people of Washinton State.
That will not be easy, as he will be facing off against fellow Republican Jerrod Sessler.
Sessler is extremely popular, a Navy veteran, as well as being a former NASCAR driver.
This is Sessler’s second run for office. He was demolished during his first run and finished a distant fourth.
Things are a bit different this time, however, as Sessler has the backing of the party and Donald Trump.
Sessler responded to coming out of the primary and his upcoming heads-up battle, stating, "In ninety days, this district is going to vote overwhelmingly for President Trump.
"I will work hard to make sure we also elect a member of Congress who will be his greatest ally in our fight to enact a pro-Constitution, pro-MAGA agenda and heal our nation from the disaster of the Biden-Harris administration."
Newhouse, for his part, has tried to avoid all things Donald Trump, but I doubt that will be an option as we head into the general election cycle.
Like it or not, he will have to explain his position, and you better believe Trump will keep his name front and center so voters know he tried to oust Trump during his first term.
I have not yet seen any head-to-head polls for these two just yet, but I would imagine that this is going to be a very close battle.
Trump’s endorsement influence will be very much on the ballot during this 2024 cycle.
