Rep. Mary Peltola (D-AK) was met with tragedy this week.
Sadly, her husband died in a plane accident on Wednesday, reported Fox News.
Other than confirming his death, however, her office did not provide much more detail on the tragedy.
He's Gone
Peltola hit the ground running as a bit of a firebrand after winning a special election on August 22, taking a seat that had been occupied by late-Rep. Don Young (R-AK) since 1973.
The election was another ding against Donald Trump, who was backing former Governor Sarah Palin. With two conservatives in the race, Peltola steamrolled the field, showing yet another crack in what had been a GOP stronghold for years.
Before taking office, she made headlines for jabbing at the GOP-run House for not being able to elect Kevin McCarthy, stating, "I'm never getting sworn in am I?"
She has also stirred the pot recently by blasting Joe Biden for blocking huge chunks of land in Alaska and nearby waters from oil drilling, knowing it will just crush the local economy.
Alaska is a notoriously close-knit community, and as such, congressional Republicans in Alaska were quick to reach out and offer their staff and services in any way possible to help Peltola during this obviously difficult time.
Peltola's chief of staff, Anton McParland, stated, "These moments really stood out amidst a difficult time, reminding us of the community bonds that make Alaska so special. We are thankful to them and to everyone who continues to reach out with sympathy and stories about Buzzy," reported The Hill.
As we noted, there is very little detail about the accident, but McParland did state, "The NTSB, who work tirelessly to keep our skies safe, briefed us on the process yesterday. We defer all related questions to their team. Out of respect for the family's privacy, our office will not be commenting any further on the investigation at this time."
Peltola has returned to Alaska to be with her family.
Yes, you are across the aisle from us, but you have our deepest sympathies regarding the death of your husband, Rep. Peltola.
