Alabama AG Says Explosive Device Detonated Outside of Its Office

Alabama Attorney General Steve Marshall revealed on Monday that an explosive device detonated outside his Montgomery office over the weekend. No injuries were reported.

Marshall stated that the explosion occurred in the early hours of Saturday, February 24. He emphasized that none of the office staff or personnel were harmed in the incident.

The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency is leading the investigation, with Marshall urging anyone with relevant information to come forward.

"In the early hours of Saturday, February 24, an explosive device was detonated outside of the Alabama Attorney General’s Office building in Montgomery," Marshall said in a statement.

"Thankfully, no staff or personnel were injured by the explosion," he added. "The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency will be leading the investigation, and we are urging anyone with information to contact them immediately."

Details about the incident remain undisclosed as both Marshall's office and the law enforcement agency declined to provide further information, citing an ongoing investigation. It is uncertain if any property sustained damage due to the explosion.

The motive behind the detonation is not yet clear. However, the incident follows Marshall's recent announcement regarding the prosecution of providers of in vitro fertilization.

This decision came after Alabama's Supreme Court ruled that frozen embryos could be considered children under state law.

The ruling was made in response to wrongful death cases involving couples whose frozen embryos were destroyed in an accident at a fertility clinic.

Marshall's stance on the prosecution of IVF providers has sparked speculation about potential connections to the explosion. No official statements regarding motives have been released.

The investigation into the incident is ongoing, and authorities have urged the public to report any relevant information to aid in their inquiries over the concerning issue.
