Aides Suggest Biden’s Health in Question Amid Global Crises
In recent weeks, concerns have emerged regarding President Joe Biden's health and ability to fulfill his duties as commander in chief, particularly after he withdrew from the 2024 presidential race.
Serious concerns have been raised due to Biden's limited public appearances following his decision to drop out of presidential contention and amid international tumult and mounting U.S. crises, as the Daily Caller reports.
Although the White House assures the public that the president is working effectively behind the scenes, aides close to him have begun expressing worry about his capacity to handle the demanding role.
Biden's decision to withdraw from the upcoming election was influenced by stress related to his son’s legal challenges, leading to a noticeable reduction in his public visibility. According to Axios, from the date he left the race on July 21, Biden has limited public engagements, with no events on 43 out of 75 days.
White House Defends Low-Profile Schedule
White House spokesperson Andrew Bates has stated that President Biden's responsibilities are not solely defined by his public appearances. A significant amount of his work occurs out of the public eye. Bates explained that public events are timed strategically to maximize their reach to the American audience.
Biden's public schedule has seen changes, including the majority of his engagements being scheduled between 11 a.m. and 5 p.m. Notably, only two events took place before 11 a.m., and five were held after 5 p.m. This shift reportedly aligns with the feedback from aides who notice verbal errors and fatigue when the President operates outside these hours.
Several global events have exacerbated the challenges facing the administration, including Hurricane Helene, which has tragically claimed at least 215 lives and left the Federal Emergency Management Agency struggling with funding shortages. Moreover, escalating tensions in the Middle East following Iran's military response against Israel have added to the growing list of international crises.
Aides Monitor Biden’s Health Amid Broad Crises
Concerns about President Biden's health are linked to observable signs of his rapid aging, attributed to the high-stress nature of his position teamed with personal family matters. These developments have heightened the attention on how effectively the President can manage both domestic and foreign issues.
Despite these challenges, Biden has maintained an active role in supporting Vice President Kamala Harris’s presidential campaign. Following his endorsement, he made a rare campaign appearance alongside Harris, showcasing a continued investment in the political landscape despite stepping down.
First lady Jill Biden has also adapted her schedule following the president's campaign withdrawal. She canceled a previous commitment to fundraise at the Olympics, although she continues to engage in official functions, including leading a delegation to Mexico.
President Addresses Decision to Withdraw
The decision to withdraw from the 2024 race was announced by Biden via social media. At the time, he was quarantining due to a COVID-19 infection. In his statement, he cited the importance of “unity” as a core reason for stepping aside.
During an interview addressing rumors circulating about his withdrawal, Biden refuted suggestions that he was coerced to depart by political allies such as former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi.
In multiple responses, he emphasized that despite some hoping he would step down to allow others an opportunity, his decision was based on different considerations, including reflection on priorities at his age. Seemingly onfident in his potential to win against former President Trump, Biden reiterated his belief that he could have been victorious.
Ongoing Support for Administration’s Goals
While no longer a contender, Biden continues to maintain that his polling remained competitive. He highlights that polling suggested he had a feasible chance for reelection.
As the nation navigates numerous pressing issues, the administration emphasizes its ongoing focus on delivering results. Echoing previous statements, Andrew Bates continues to assert President Biden’s dedication to his responsibilities and his success in achieving historic outcomes for the American people, but public concern and scrutiny is sure to persist.
