After Hamas released Chicago woman and her daughter, taken during Israel massacre, Anthony Blinken said 10 Americans remain prisoners

Even after Hamas released a mother and daughter from Chicago, where they had been abducted, Anthony Blinken claims the terrorist organization is still holding at least 10 Americans captive.

While discussing the release of Judith and Natalie Raanan on Friday, the Secretary of State revealed the total number of missing people, as the Daily Mail reported.

Following the terror strikes on Oct. 7, Blinken stated that he knew nothing further about the "status or condition" of the Americans thought to still be in Hamas custody.

He also declined to elaborate on the status of the Raanans after their handover.

The Secretary of State's Comments

Blinken told reporters: "We welcome [the Raanans'] release. We share in the relief that their families, friends and loved ones are feeling.

"But there are still ten additional Americans who remain unaccounted for in this conflict," he added.

"Some of them are being held hostage by Hamas along with an estimated 200 other hostages held in Gaza. They include men, women and young boys, young girls and people from many nations. Every single one of them should be released," Blinken went on.

Nearly two weeks after the militant group captured around 200 captives in the Oct. 7 attack that killed 1,400 Israelis, predominantly civilians, Hamas armed wing spokesperson Abu Ubaida published a statement on Friday announcing the release.

Judith and Natalie were turned over to the Red Cross at an Egyptian border crossing in the Gaza Strip, and they are currently making their way to a military base in the country's center, where they will be reunited with their loved ones.

More Official Statements

In a statement, President Joe Biden claimed that the Raanans' release had been "secured" and that the government felt "deep sympathy" for the "terrible ordeal" they had been through.

He also stated that he was 'overjoyed' by the women's release and that he will keep working to secure the release of other imprisoned Americans.

Longtime MSNBC Middle East correspondent Martin Fletcher broke down live on air earlier this week when he revealed that hostages Judith and Natalie Raanan are members of his wife's family.
