Acting FBI Director already on thin ice
With Christopher Wray resigning as FBI Director when Trump assumed office, Brian Driscoll was tapped by Trump to serve as acting director until Kash Patel could be confirmed.
The Department of Justice wants the names of the FBI agents who worked on January 6 cases, but Driscoll has been hesitant to give them up.
There are now rumors that he may resign or wind up getting fired for not giving up the names.
We Want Names
Trump said he would not be out for revenge when taking office, but he also stated that his directors would be on their own to do as they saw fit.
Well, it now appears that a hunt is out to review every case that was investigated by the FBI regarding January 6.
Trump is drawing a line in the sand regarding January 6, and I am just not sure that is the smartest thing to do.
To that point, Acting Deputy Attorney General Emil Bove ordered Driscoll to turn over the names on Friday of any agent who, “at any time,” worked on J6 investigations “to determine whether any additional personnel actions are necessary.”
The memo continued, “These lists should include relevant supervisory personnel in FBI regional offices and field divisions, as well as at FBI Headquarters.”
Driscoll was hesitant to hand over the information, responding, “We understand that this request encompasses thousands of employees across the country who have supported these investigative efforts.
“I am one of those employees.”
Reports surfaced on Monday that a second request was made to detail the work done by the agents, but Driscoll reportedly outright refused that order.
The list reportedly contains the names of thousands of agents. A former FBI source stated, “You have a lot of people that were like, ’Oh, I’ll do a couple of misdemeanor arrests. No big deal.’ But they did them, and so those people fully expect to be gone.
“And other people that were working on them may be gone, too, no matter how much work they’ve done.”
I have several sources of former and current FBI agents, and the feedback I am getting is mixed.
Some believe as long as people did not step out of bounds, they have nothing to fear, so go ahead and supply the list.
I have one source who is a retired agent, who fully supports Trump, stated that he thinks this is a move that could backfire against Trump if a slew of agents wind up being fired.
This is something that I have warned about as well, as Trump is stacking the deck for Democrats to impeach him if they take back the House in 2026.
They already have a case to be made after Trump pardoned those who were convicted of sedition, and if Trump winds up firing a slew of agents, Dems are going to add that to the chest as well.
If anyone gets fired, Patel or whoever fires them better have an air-tight case that they abused their authority in order to make charges stick, or this will backfire in a horrible way for Patel and Trump, as well as incoming AG Pam Bondi.
