Belgian actress dead at 43

A very popular actress, Émilie Dequenne, had passed away.

Dequenne started her rise to fame in 1999 when her debut film, “Rosetta,” won the Belgium Cannes Film Festival.

She was only 43 years old.

She’s Gone

In October 2023, Dequenne stunned her fans when she revealed she had been diagnosed with a very rare form of cancer in her adrenal glands.

This Sunday, the disease, sadly, won, as it was announced that the actress had passed away in France.

Dequenne studied at Belgium’s Music & Spoken Word Academy and landed her first major role at the age of 17.

As we mentioned above, “Rosetta” was a huge success, cementing Dequenne’s place in the acting world.

On her death, Dardenne stated, “It’s terrible, life is disgusting sometimes. That’s too young, she still had so much to do.”

He also commented on the casting session where Dequenne caught his eye, stating, “She came in high heels, heavily made up, her hair done up… For her, it was an event, she thought she had to be really well dressed.

“We started the scenes and we saw she was magnificent, she was there, everything she did, we felt that the camera loved her.”

It did not take long for the rest of the movie-making world to realize her talents, and by 2004, she was receiving offers hand-over-fist.

In 2001, she started, “Brotherhood of the Wolf,” then in 2004 she starred in “The Light,” another well-received film.

While TV was not a regular occurrence for her, in 2004, she also appeared in a single episode of “Kaamelott.”

Her success continued, with dozens of movies on her resume leading up to a recurring role on “The Missing,” a very popular TV series at the time.

Ironically, in 2018, she starred in a TV movie called, “My Mum, Cancer, and Me,” followed up by “An Irrepressible Woman” in 2019.

At this point, she started to venture more into TV shows, landing several recurring roles on TV shows, including “Inside,” “An Ordinary Man,” and L’ecole de la vie.”

Even though she had been diagnosed in 2023, she Dequenne kept cranking out the movies, starting in “Marinette,” “Double Foyer,” “Well Done,” “Retro Therapy,” “Survive,” and her final credit, “TKT” in 2024.

Dequenne is survived by her husband, Michel Ferracci, and her daughter, Milla, 23.

Rest in peace, young lady, for 43 is far too young for anyone to go.
