Gavin Newsom refuses to release wildfire-related texts, emails

Democrat California Gov. Gavin Newsom has found himself in hot water after refusing to release text messages and emails about the recent wildfires.

When investigative reporters requested that Newsom release any emails and texts he sent or received from Los Angeles county and city officials regarding the crisis, he refused.

Newsom claimed he was “exempt” from doing so.

“We did ask Gov. Newsom for his emails and text messages to and from LA County and LA City officials in the days leading up to and after the fires. We were told they would not be providing those and that the governor's communications are exempt,” one reporter said during a recent news segment.

Newsom is not the only one refusing to release texts.

Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass has also refused to release her messages, claiming her phone simply deletes them every 30 days.

“My phone did automatic delete after thirty days,” Bass said.

Her lawyer, David Michaelson, backed her statement up, saying that “her phone is not set to save text messages.”

Michaelson added that in addition to the deletion of Bass’ messages, there is “no requirement that a city official or employee save text messages.”

However, Los Angeles’ document retention policy says that most records “should be kept for at least two years.”

The Los Angeles Times has now suggested that by this standard, Bass could have broken both state law and city code by setting her messages to delete.

Multiple news outlets have now investigated the possibility of legal action being taken against Bass for deleting the texts, including Breitbart News, who contacted Los Angeles County District Attorney, Nathan Hochman.

Breitbart News asked Hochman if he will pursue any legal action against Bass, but Hochman has yet to respond at the time of writing.

Newsom on the other hand, has made no such claim that his texts or emails have been deleted.

The governor has only refused to release them.

Could Newsom be hiding something surrounding the recent fires?

It wouldn't be surprising, as many people feel as though liberals don't want the American people to know the truth about what goes on in our government. Especially after the disastrous fires he let destroy his state, Newsom probably has more to hide than anyone.
