Speaker Johnson: Zelensky has done ‘about face’ on mineral deal
As we all saw about two weeks ago, Ukrainian President Zelensky was tossed from the White House before the mineral rights deal could be signed.
According to reports at the time, Zelensky had met with Democrats before his White House meeting, and they recommended that he not sign the deal.
It never got to that point, as Zelensky, Trump, and JD Vance’s meeting blew up, and Zelensky left in a huff.
He’s Gone
Zelensky has been pretty vocally against the deal since Trump brought it up, mostly because he believes he does not owe the United States a single red cent for the nearly $200 billion in aid he has received during the war against Russia.
This, of course, was also part of the problem at the White House meeting, as Trump and Vance had had about enough of Zelensky’s attitude.
As I stated before, while many people were upset about the blowup on national TV, while I thought this all should have been hashed out behind closed doors, I did not mind Zelensky getting knocked down a rung or two in front of the world.
Zelensky went running to EU officials, but they more or less told him that he needed to go back to Trump and eat a plate of crow.
To that point, Speaker Johnson (R-LA) stated, “I’m really grateful and glad that Zelensky, in the last several days, has done an about-face. He’s effectively apologized for all that. And he said, ‘Oh no, no, we would like that deal after all.’ I think he had a rude awakening.
“I think a lot of the people in his country were upset with the way that was handled. Certainly we all were, but we’ve got to get him back to the table.”
When I read that Democrats told Zelensky not to sign the deal because Ukraine gained nothing, I was livid, as he has already received nearly $200 billion in aid and will need more if this war continues.
The securities that Zelensky wants, save NATO membership, will be negotiated during the peace deal, but how about we worry about getting back what we have already given, with interest, to Ukraine?
I wish I could say that I was shocked that Democrats sabotaged this deal, but it does not surprise me in the least, as they seem perfectly happy with the United States getting the short end of every deal made.
Not to mention the fact they clearly do not want to see Trump getting any credit for negotiating the end to this war.
