CT state lawmaker arrested for DUI
I will never understand why high-profile individuals drink and drive when they have so much to lose.
The latest example is Connecticut state lawmaker, Rep. Aundré Bumgardner (D-Groton).
Bumgardner failed a field sobriety test and was arrested and charged with DUI.
Clearly Drunk
My friends and I don’t drink and drive, and we are hardly people that have as much to lose as sports stars or politicians.
Yet, there is Bumgardner, who clearly appears to be intoxicated on his field sobriety test…
The lawmaker was stopped when police spotted his car with a flat tire, which Bomgardner claimed was a result of having hit something on the road.
Officers said that his eyes were “red and glossy” when they stopped him, and smelled alcohol on his breath. They also stated that his speech was slurred.
The cherry on this sundae was that there was reportedly a woman passed out in the back seat of his car, who was later identified as the lawmaker's wife.
A Fox News post on the report stated, “During the booking process, Bumgardner pointed at the officer’s body camera, saying ‘it felt very invasive to him’ and appeared to be evasive when asked to sign paperwork informing him of his rights, according to the report.”
Prior to his arrest, Rep. Bumgardner served on the “Finance, Revenue & Bonding, Planning & Development, and Environment Committees. He also serves as Assistant Majority Leader and as the secretary of the legislature’s Black and Puerto Rican Caucus.”
The Speaker of the CT House has since stated that Bumgardner has been relieved of all leadership duties.
He has literally thrown his career away rather than spending a few bucks on an Uber to get home.
That, of course, does not even consider how many people’s lives he put in danger by getting behind the wheel like this.
Is removing him from his leadership duties enough?
There is the argument that everyone deserves a second chance, but these are the people creating laws, yet they don’t seem to be able to follow them.
