Pro-Palestine Columbia graduate arrested by ICE

Donald Trump had promised to root out anti-Israel students on college campuses leading illegal protests, and his administration has just found the first one.

Mahmoud Khalil is a pro-Palestine student protester who served as the head negotiator for a pro-Palestine encampment last year at Columbia University.

He was reportedly arrested on Saturday evening by the Department of Homeland Security.

If you recall, the campus of Columbia had more or less been taken over by the protests to support Palestine, some of them turning violent.

Jewish students were literally in fear for the lives, and some areas of the campus had been shut down by these protests, preventing some students from being able to attend their classes.

Undergraduate student Maryam Alwan, who attended the protests with Khalil, stated that she was “horrified” by the fact her friend had been arrested.

She stated, “I am horrified for my dear friend Mahmoud, who is a legal resident, and I am horrified that this is only the beginning.”

Amy Greer, Khalil's attorney, has been informed that his student visa and green card are being revoked.

According to witnesses, two plain-clothed officers showed up at Khalil’s apartment to arrest him early Saturday evening.

His wife, who is pregnant, was also there. Witnesses stated that the agents told her to stand aside or she risked being arrested with her husband.

This will be litigated, as current laws state that only an immigration judge can revoke someone’s green card, with there needing to be evidence of having lied or committed a felony or drug crime.

Columbia University had also released a statement, which read, “There have been reports of ICE around campus. Columbia has and will continue to follow the law.

“Consistent with our longstanding practice and the practice of cities and institutions throughout the country, law enforcement must have a judicial warrant to enter non-public University areas, including University buildings.

“Columbia is committed to complying with all legal obligations and supporting our student body and campus community.”

So, the question now will be if Khalil committed a crime that would qualify to have his green card and student visa revoked.
