Popular voice actor dead at 67

Fans of the “Space Ghost” franchise are wiping their tears away today.

George Lowe, whose claim to fame is providing the voice for Space Ghost, has passed away.

He was only 67 years old.

He’s Gone

Lowe spent his entire career as a voice actor, starting in 1994 with “Radioland Murders.”

His career got off to a bit of a slow start, but from 1997 on, the paychecks were pretty steady.

He did the voice acting for Space Ghost on “Cartoon Planet,” which led to a steady stream of gigs as Space Ghost and dozens of other characters.

By far, his most successful venture was “Space Ghost Coast to Coast,” appearing in 113 episodes over nearly two decades.

He was also featured in “Aqua Teen Hunger Force” as a Mall Cop for 24 episodes, and “Robot Chicken,” where he played Pete God and Colonial Cat Narrator, among others, for 11 episodes.

Fittingly, the last project on his resume was Space Ghost in “Jellystone,” which aired in 2024.

According to Lowe’s publicist, Lowe passed away in Lakeland, FL, on Sunday from complications from a recent elective heart surgery.

Space Ghost writer MC Chris had previously noted that Lowe was having health issues, having posted in 2023, “A fan wrote me concerned that they hadn’t heard from George Lowe (aka Space Ghost) on Facebook for a long time so I checked in on him.

“He’s actually had some health problems, had a bad February which required an aortic dissection and he had to be intubated twice and we came close to losing him.

“He’s been in a nursing home and rehab and has had to return to the hospital as well to get his medication corrected. He now has a nurse looking after him in his home in Florida.”

Lowe’s longtime friend, “Marvelous Marvin” Boone, also posted a tribute to the late actor, stating, “I’m beyond devastated. My Zobanian brother and best friend for over 40 years, George Lowe, has passed away.

“A part of me had also died. He was a supremely talented Artist and Voice actor. A true warm-hearted Genius. Funniest man on Earth too. I’ve stolen jokes from him for decades. He stole some of mine. He was also the voice of Space Ghost and so much more. Pweeloto.”

Rest in peace, sir, and thanks for the many memories.
