Maine Democrat changing his tune on protecting women’s sports

Rp. Jared Golden (D-ME) has decided to change his tune on biological males competing in women’s sports.

Golden has repeatedly voted against Republican legislation to protect women’s sports, but he is suddenly changing his tune.

He is in a district that is just as likely to vote red as it is blue, so this is about protecting his seat.

Protecting His Paycheck

The 2024 election was a clear referendum on many of the woke Democrat policies, which included supporting biological males competing in women’s sports.

We have seen time and again where middling male athletes transition over to women’s sports and dominate.

In addition to the integrity of the sport, one of my additional concerns is for the safety of women in combat and contact sports, such as field hockey, lacrosse, ice hockey, MMA, and boxing.

If this continues, it is only a matter of time before a woman gets seriously hurt, or worse, killed, during a sporting event.

In January, Golden voted against legislation to protect women’s sports, but he has since reversed his decision.

Golden recently stated, “In public schools in Maine, biological boys shouldn’t compete in sports against biological girls.”

This after voting against the Protection of Women and Girls in Sports Act in January, and voting “no” on the same legislation in April 2023.

Prior to that, Golden co-sponsored the Equality Act in 2021, which would have given transgenders access to women’s locker rooms, bathrooms, and shelters.

On Tuesday, Golden also posted a blog report, stating, “For most people, the fact that men and women are different is about as noncontroversial as you can get.

“The growing recognition and acceptance of transgender students complicates this arrangement. But that doesn’t mean we can simply ignore biology.

“I believe the state got it wrong by overturning a half-century of Title IX precedent and requiring school districts to open girls sports programs to natal males at the early stages of transition and those who may not be undergoing medical transition at all.

“It would also be wrong to exclude trans kids from sports entirely. But the current system of letting kids change teams based simply on gender self-identification sets the bar too low to justify infringing on girls’ Title IX rights.”

While I would like to say that Golden is finally listening to his constituents, this is about self-preservation and nothing more.

In the 2024 election, Trump beat Harris by nine points in Golden’s district, and Trump was very clear about his position on transgenders during the election. Golden knows if he wants to keep his seat, he will have to move his position so he does not lose that fat taxpayer-funded check.
