DOGE claws back $67 million in EPA awards
The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is collaborating with the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) and the results have been catastrophic.
The recently established DOGE has been auditing agencies and working with the EPA in order to revoke awards totaling more than $67 million that were handed out by the Biden administration, as Fox News reported.
EPA is reportedly concentrating its efforts on spending $77.1 million that was designated by the EPA during the Biden administration for "environmental justice" grants.
These grants, seemingly part of an overindulgence on the part of the last administration, were given to twenty different beneficiaries.
From the Chief
Lee Zeldin, the administrator of the EPA, made the announcement that the agency was able to effectively cancel $67.4 million in scheduled funding, despite the fact that nearly $10 million has already been spent and cannot be recovered.
“We will make sure every penny spent by EPA goes towards protecting human health and the environment, and Powering the Great American Comeback,” said Zeldin.
“I am proud to partner with DOGE to restore fiscal responsibility and accountability in our government.”
In response, the official X account for DOGE praised the reduction made by the EPA as "good work."
What Was Canceled
The San Diego State University Foundation, which intended to utilize the $4.2 million grant to promote "environmental justice" among "tribal, indigenous, and Pacific Island communities," was one of the organizations whose funding were canceled.
It has come to light under Zeldin's watch that the EPA spent at least $20 billion in taxpayer funds frivolously under the prior administration, with the allocation of funds being decided by eight agency entities "at their discretion."
Power Forward Communities, a radical left-wing organization with links to former Georgia governor Stacey Abrams, received a $2 billion grant as part of this expenditure.
DOGE, headed by billionaire Elon Musk, has been given the mission by President Trump to reduce the size of the federal bureaucracy. This includes cutting wasteful spending, firing employees whose jobs are no longer needed, and even dismantling entire agencies that are no longer needed. USAID and the Department of Education have been their primary targets
