Lee Zeldin's EPA cancels $67M in 'wasteful DEI and environmental justice' projects
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency has successfully worked with the Department of Government Efficiency to cut over $67 million dollars in frivolous spending.
According to Administrator Lee Zeldin, those $67 million were found going to “wasteful DEI and Environmental Justice grants.”
The groups that received the cuts were confirmed to be all left-leaning nonprofits and schools, all deemed to be prime candidates for budget cuts.
Zeldin took to X, the platform formerly known as Twitter, to share the news with his followers.
“UPDATE: I just canceled another 21 wasteful DEI and Environmental Justice grants, with the help of our amazing @DOGE team, racking up $67M more in savings!” Zeldin wrote in his post.
Earlier in the month, Zeldin also announced he saved another $50 million dollars by canceling funding going to a “Free Palestine” climate group.
He called the cut a “wasteful spending ending with the Trump administration.”
Zeldin gave a statement on his decision to “restore fiscal responsibility.”
“We will make sure every penny spent by EPA goes towards protecting human health and the environment and Powering the Great American Comeback. I am proud to partner with DOGE to restore fiscal responsibility and accountability in our government,” Zeldin said.
While liberals across the nation are fuming over the budget revisions, there are just as many Republicans who are backing the initiative 100%.
Those Republicans include Rep. Nicole Malliotakis from New York who says that the crackdown on spending is “long overdue”
“For four years, the Biden Administration irresponsibly spent taxpayer dollars like drunken sailors,” the lawmaker began.
“The days of wasteful bureaucratic spending on woke pet projects are over. Tax dollars must serve hard-working Americans and protect our nation’s future,” Malliotakis went on.
This is just the beginning of the crackdown of government spending and more cuts are predicted to come in the future.
