Mexican authorities approve training by US Special Forces to fight Cartel

Over the last 24 hours, there has been a ton of misinformation about US Special Forces being approved to go against the Cartels, and some pretty high-profile conservatives on social media are promoting it.

I wanted to make sure our readers have the facts.

And the facts are that while our troops will be headed to Mexico, it is for training purposes only, not to go after the Cartels directly.

Approved

Donald Trump has made it clear that if he had his way, he would use our Special Forces units to destroy the Cartels.

Unless he wants to start a war, however, he would need the permission of the Mexican government to conduct operations on their soil.

Of course, they could do black ops, but if they get caught, well, we all know the mess that creates.

Instead, the Mexican Senate has approved the U.S. Army’s 7th Special Forces Group (Airborne) to train its operatives to fight back against the Cartels.

Airborne will be training the Mexican Navy’s Infantería de Marina (marine infantry) on various types of combat to dismantle the Cartels in the country.

Training will be conducted from Feb. 17 through March 30 at the Luis Carpizo naval facility in the state of Campeche.

The announcement was made by Sen. Alejandro Moreno Cardenas, president of the Mexican Senate’s Naval Ministry Commission.

In exchange for the training, the United States will reportedly increase its interdiction of firearms being illegally crossed into Mexico.

Scott Stewart, vice president of intelligence for international security consultant TorchStone Global, explained, “It’s important to say the Green Berets’ role is going to be just that: Training.

“It’s not like they’re sending in the SEALs, the Delta (Force) or the (Army) Rangers. It’s not like we are seeing the deployment of combat troops or combat aircraft.”

According to local reports in Mexico, an American spy plane has also been spotted in the area, but that is likely to pass on intelligence to Mexican operatives, not for the United States to conduct some sort of assault.

This is still very good news, but it is definitely not what some conservative pundits are saying it is.
