Republicans ready to confirm Kash Patel to lead FBI amid controversies
Donald Trump believes that Kash Patel is the right man to lead the Federal Bureau of Investigation, and it would appear as though Republicans are ready to support that decision.
The Washington Examiner is reporting that "Republicans have signaled they plan to confirm Kash Patel, President Donald Trump’s choice to lead the FBI, and that nothing, including Patel’s financial disclosures and a recent whistleblower allegation, will stand in the way."
Despite the concerns surrounding Patel, Senate Judiciary Committee Republicans all voted favorably to send his nomination to the full Senate for a final vote.
The vote could come as early as the week of Feb. 17.
Even though all Republicans on the committee supported Patel, exactly zero Democrats were willing to do the same.
Democrats didn't just quietly vote against Patel either, they all took time to criticize Republicans for ignoring "red flags" about Patel.
"I’ve just never seen something like this for a candidate, and I’m surprised that there’s not more people who are calling some of this out," Sen. Cory Booker, a Democrat from New Jersey, said ahead of the vote.
"Mark my words, this Patel guy will come back to haunt you," said Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse, a Democrat from Rhode Island. "Every piece of evidence shows that."
Sen. Dick Durbin, a Democrat from Illinois, said that unnamed whistleblowers have told him that Patel was improperly arranging for FBI employees' firings behind the scenes.
Acting Deputy Attorney General Emil Bove recently ordered the removal of eight of the FBI's top executives and demanded the FBI create a list of the thousands of FBI employees who worked on the J6 cases so that Bove could review the list for possible "personnel action."
Durbin claims to know that those orders were indirectly made by Patel.
However, Republicans doubt the credibility of Durbin's allegations.
"The purpose of this campaign is obvious, throw everything at the wall and hope something sticks," said Sen. Chuck Grassley, a Republican from Iowa.
Do you think Patel will eventually be confirmed to lead America's Federal Bureau of Investigation?
