Top ICE officials demoted as Trump ramps up illegal immigration cleanup

Donald Trump made it clear on the campaign trail that he was planning on closing America's open borders and cleaning up illegal immigration in this country.

If you're not on board with that program, then you need to get out of the way.

The New York Post is reporting that "two Immigration and Customs Enforcement bigwigs have been demoted for reportedly failing to keep up with President Trump’s migrant deportation crackdown demands — with an official who has previously called for the long-shuttered ICE office at Rikers Island to reopen tapped to lead the enforcement division.

The officials, Russell Hott and Peter Berg, were cut from ICE's enforcement division after pressure increased on the agency to ramp up illegal immigrant arrests and deportations.

"ICE needs a culture of accountability that it has been starved of for the past four years," a Department of Homeland Security spokesperson said in the wake of the demotions.

"We have a president, DHS secretary, and American people who rightfully demand results, and our ICE leadership will ensure the agency delivers," the spokesperson continued.

While things have improved under Donald Trump a little bit, it's clear that there is still room for growth.

Multiple ICE raids have fallen short of expectations because details regarding the time and locations of the raids were leaked beforehand, leading to the targets being able to prepare for the raids.

After the demotion of Hott and Berg, they will return to local field offices in Washington and Minnesota, respectively.

Todd Lyons, the leading official at ICE's Boston Office, is slated to take over the Enforcement and Removal Operations division.

Lyons is a no-nonsense employee. In 2024, he called for the ICE office at the Rikers Island jail complex to reopen to detain migrant criminals.

"Re-establishing the [US Immigration and Customs Enforcement] unit at Rikers would allow [Enforcement and Removal Operations] NYC officers to take direct custody of foreign-born criminal offenders without the need to re-apprehend these criminals at large in the community," Lyons argued.

Do you think that Lyons is the right choice to lead ICE and make some serious progress on America's immigration problem?
