REPORT: Bondi pausing aid to sanctuary cities

Attorney General Pam Bondi is already making a splash after having just been confirmed.

Bondi released her primary objectives after taking office, and there is a huge emphasis on illegal immigration.

As such, Bondi is reportedly trying to pause federal aid to sanctuary cities, but this is going to be a battle.

Hitting the Ground Running

One of her first acts was to further empower Joint Task Force Vulcan, a coordinated effort between government agencies to dismantle MS-13, and Joint Task Force Alpha, created to fight human trafficking.

She is also asking her staff to identify legislative reforms that can be made to go after the equipment used to make drugs like fentanyl.

Bondi also wants to pause all federal funding to the 13 sanctuary states and 220 sanctuary cities in this country.

This is the battle that I am looking forward to the most.

The Court has decided time and again that immigration is a federal issue, so I have always questioned the legality and constitutionality of sanctuary cities and states.

If this is a federal issue, how can a city or a state create a law that shreds federal immigration law to protect illegal immigrants?

This has rarely been challenged at the Supreme Court level and when it was, the Court kicked the case back down to the lower courts, but I don’t see that as an option this time around.

Then there is the issue of halting congressionally approved funding, which is illegal. Trump fought this battle during his first administration when he withheld aid from Ukraine, and he wound up being impeached for it.

Conservatives on social media are already celebrating this move, but just because Bondi says she wants to do it does not mean she can.

This is going to be a long and ugly fight, and it may not even be rectified during the Trump administration unless the Supreme Court decides to fast-track the case.
