Judge Cannon Eviscerates Biden DOJ on Special Counsel Report

Trump-appointed Judge Aileen Cannon has taken a huge shot at the Biden Department of Justice.

On Tuesday, Cannon unleashed on the DOJ for its efforts to publish part two of the Special Counsel report by Jack Smith.

Cannon openly accused the Biden DOJ of weaponizing itself against Trump and his allies, to the point that I have never seen or heard a judge reprimand the DOJ like this before.

Weaponized

Former Attorney General Merrick Garland wanted to have the Special Counsel report on Trump released even though all charges against Trump had been dropped.

As if that were not bad enough, there are still cases running that could be impacted by the release of the report, so this is a huge deal.

To that point, Cannon stated, “A court has an affirmative duty, triggered at the inception of a criminal proceeding, to safeguard the due process rights of the accused.

“Never before has the Department of Justice, prior to the conclusion of criminal proceedings against a defendant — and absent a litigation-specific reason as appropriate in the case itself — sought to disclose outside the Department a report prepared by a Special Counsel containing substantive and voluminous case information. Until now.”

Cannon concluded, “In short, the Department offers no valid justification for the purportedly urgent desire to release to members of Congress case information in an ongoing criminal proceeding.

“Its own Justice Manual, which expressly directs against disclosing substantive case information in a criminal case ‘except as appropriate in the proceeding or in an announcement after a finding of guilt.’”

Her statement actually went on a bit further, making note of how the release could harm the cases of other defendants.

All the Dems with TDS want to see that report, but I have been against it from the outset for the reasons mentioned above.

And before the trolls come out, the difference in this case and the Hunter Biden case is that Hunter had pleaded guilty, so releasing the report made sense.

Here, the charges were dropped and existing cases could be impacted, so this was a gross misstep by Garland, and even though Dems will disregard what Cannon is saying, she hit the nail on the head here.
