Melania Reveals How Her Relationship with Trump Started

Melania and Donald Trump just celebrated their 20th wedding anniversary.

The former supermodel takes a lot of heat over her relationship with the polarizing president.

They appear to be opposites in every way, yet they wound up together, and Melania recently opened up on how it all happened.

His Energy

The Trumps celebrated 20 years of marriage on January 22, with Trump making several posts honoring his wife and our First Lady.

The two met at a party in New York in 1998, but Trump was in the middle of his divorce from Marla Maples at the time.

Not only that, but Trump had a date at the Fashion Show Week event!

When Trump asked her for her number, she refused, telling him to give her his number. Melania explained, "I wanted to see what kind of number he would give me.”

Because Trump was at the party with a date, she said there was no way she was going to give him her number.

She stated that had it been his business number, she never would have gone out with him because they were not doing “business” together.

Instead of giving her just one number, Donald Trump gave her every number he had. His personal number, his home number, his office number, and his number at Mar-a-Lago.

Melania played coy, waiting a few days to call him, which she did, and the rest, as they say, is history.

Melania stated, “I was struck by his energy. He has an amazing sense of vitality.”

Trump’s divorce from Maples was finalized in 1999, but he and Melania had a brief breakup in 2000, with Trump clearly having no ill will toward her, stating at the time, "Melania is an amazing woman, a terrific woman, a great woman and she will be missed."

After dabbling in a presidential run in 2000, Trump left the Reform Party and was soon spotted with Melania again. Then, at the 2004 Met Gala, Trump asked her to marry him, and they have been together ever since.
