Swift Stalker Inspires New York Lawmakers Bill

A recent ordeal of Taylor Swift’s is reportedly the inspiration behind new legislation working its way through the New York legislature.

Swift recently had an incident with a stalker, which brought to light what happens with mentally ill patients after they are released.

The new bill would monitor mentally ill patients in lower-level cases once they are released to ensure they are getting the treatment they need.

Protecting Taylor

I can say there have probably been thousands of attacks against regular citizens by mentally ill people who were released after having prior arrests.

Those are not big deal, though… as it takes a stalker against Taylor Swift to get this matter any national attention.

The new legislation would assign these individuals to state workers in the Office of Mental Health Services.

This would ensure they are getting treatment after their release to ensure they do not revert back to the behavior that resulted in their arrest in the first place.

Manhattan DA Alvin Bragg stated, “Defying logic, our laws dictate that hundreds of people who are found unfit to stand trial by mental health professionals have their cases dismissed and are sent back to our communities without the necessary tools to access potentially life-saving treatment.”

The legislation was a reaction to David Crowe, 33, stalking Taylor Swift when she was at her Manhattan apartment.

He was initially charged with a misdemeanor after they found that he had been rummaging through a trash bin near Swift’s home.

The charge was eventually dismissed, with the court finding Crowe mentally ill.

State Senator Brad Hoylman-Sigal stated, “There are simply too many individuals struggling with mental illness languishing on the streets and in the subways of New York City.

“If we are to seriously address this issue, we must focus on getting those with severe mental illnesses the help they need.”

I agree on the issue, but it is just a shame it took some rooting through Swift’s garbage to make it happen.
