REPORT: Musk May Be Getting Office Space in White House
Just how much access will Elon Musk have as co-chair of DOGE?
If recent reports are accurate, all he may have to do is walk down the hall.
Reports are now breaking that the DOGE co-boss could be working out of the Eisenhower Executive Office Building, which is right next to the West Wing.
Walk Down the Hall
Musk having unfettered access to Trump has quite a few people on the left worried, and even some on the right, to be honest.
I have even stated myself that I know Musk has an endgame here, I just have not yet been able to figure it out. Keep in mind, Steve Bannon, who has Trump's ear, has just vowed to make sure Musk even gets inside the White House, so this is going to get really interesting.
Currently, Musk’s DOGE Team is working at SpaceX’s offices in DC, but the staff will be increased rather significantly once Trump takes office.
The department being created to cut government costs will likely have more than 100 new salaries added to the taxpayer’s tab in what I believe will be a big nothing burger.
Musk has already tried to damper his initial claims that he could cut $2 trillion, stating, "I think we’ll try for $2 trillion. I think that’s like the best-case outcome.
"But I do think that you kind of have to have some overage. I think if we try for $2 trillion, we’ve got a good shot at getting $1 [trillion]."
Trump will be able to make some cuts recommended by DOGE, but anything created by an act of Congress can only be undone by an act of Congress, and that means they will need the Dems to help, and that is not going to happen.
For example, Trump wants to eliminate the Department of Education, which Republicans have been trying to get rid of since the Reagan era.
The legislation has either failed or never just made it to the floor.
There is also the question of exactly what role Musk will play in the newly formed agency.
If Musk leads DOGE as a special government employee, he has to file a financial disclosure form, which I am not sure he wants to do.
If he foregoes that status, he will have to hold public hearings and publicize DOGE documents.
Whatever cuts DOGE makes, I will look at it as a happy surprise, and I just hope they manage to pay for the payroll and benefits they are creating, and that this is just not an excuse to put a bunch of people on a government salary.
