South Korean President Taken into Custody

The drama in South Korea over rogue President Yoon Suk Yeol finally appears to be over.

After Yoon declared martial law, he was impeached, which led to him hiding out inside his residence.

That standoff came to an end this week, with Yoon now being taken into custody.

They Got Him

After Yoon declared martial law, South Korea plunged into utter chaos, with other local officials hoping to undo the mess that Yoon created.

As noted above, he was impeached, but Yoon has been in hiding ever since.

The Corruption Investigation Office for High-Ranking Officials (CIO) reported that a warrant was issued and executed at 10:33 a.m. local time.

According to the report, Yoon’s presidential compound was surrounded by hundreds of police officers to take him into custody.

The CIO stated, “Unlike the first execution attempt, this time there were no individuals or security staff actively obstructing the execution, and there were no significant physical clashes.”

Yoon maintains that the arrest warrant issued against him is illegal, but he wanted to prevent a “bloody confrontation,” so he surrendered to authorities.

Yoon stated, “Unfortunately, the rule of law in this country has completely collapsed.”

At the time Yoon was taken into custody, both supporters and critics were protesting near his residence.

His supporters were mimicking Trump supporters here in the United States, holding up signs that said, “Stop the Steal.”

Yoon Sang Hyun, a PPP lawmaker, commented, “The president remained very composed as he was being arrested. He even comforted me, instead.”

Yoon has significant support in the country, so it will be very interesting to see how this plays out. I am also looking forward to seeing which side of this argument Trump supports.

Yoon’s camp is very much pushing the lawfare angle, with a representative stating, “He is being treated as though he were a member of a South American drug cartel.”
