REPORT: McMahon Pays $1.7 Million to Settle Lawsuit
Hush money is all the rage right now, with Donald Trump recently losing his case in New York for fixing his books regarding hush money payments.
Another figure that is linked to Trump, Vince McMahon, has also just settled a case for a reported $1.7 million.
McMahon’s wife, Linda, has been nominated as Trump’s Secretary of Education.
Pay the Money
Former WWE CEO Vince McMahon has reportedly reached a deal with the SEC in this suit.
According to the report, McMahan had allegedly paid a staffer and contractor to keep quiet about alleged relationships.
Rather than drag the case out, McMahon reportedly agreed to pay out $1.7 million, which is literally a drop in the bucket for him.
McMahon has a reported net worth of about $3 billion.
McMahon released a statement on the matter on X, posting, “The case is closed. Today ends nearly three years of investigation by different governmental agencies.
“There has been a great deal of speculation about what exactly the government was investigating and what the outcome would be.
“As today’s resolution shows, much of that speculation was misguided and misleading.”
The reason the SEC was involved was because it claimed that since McMahon did not reveal the payments to the WWE’s Board of Directors, it was deemed to be an SEC violation.
New York Regional Office exec Thomas P. Smith Jr. explained, “Company executives cannot enter into material agreements on behalf of the company they serve and withhold that information from the company’s control functions and auditor.”
McMahon has to pay the WWE about $1.33 million, while also paying a fine of $400,000.
McMahon added, “In the end, there was never anything more to this than minor accounting errors with regard to some personal payments that I made several years ago while I was CEO of WWE. I’m thrilled that I can now put all this behind me.”
Ironically, that is very much along the lines that Donald Trump used to defend himself against the prosecution of his hush money payments, but this case with McMahon just proves my points.
This happens all the time, and how it was settled with McMahon is usually the result of such a case, not three dozen felony indictments and the threat of a lifetime in jail.
I have said it a million times, I do not debate the fact that Trump broke the law in regard to how the hush money payments were made, but the indictment he faced was completely and utterly ridiculous.
