Glenn Close Says Vance Family ‘Generous’ During ‘Hillbilly Elegy’ Filming

Actress Glenn Close portrayed Vice President-Elect JD Vance’s grandmother in the movie adaptation of his best-selling book, “Hillbilly Elegy.”

She was recently on “The View” to discuss, among other topics, her interaction with the Vance family.

She was complimentary at first, but she also decided to take a few shots.

Very Generous

Vance and his family had no issue at all giving time to the actors to help them dial in their performance in the movie.

Close stated, "We all met members of the family. We all sat with them individually, you know, one-on-one and, for me, with Mamaw, I'd say, ‘how did she walk into a room, how did she sit, how did she smoke, how did she laugh, how did she change the chemistry?’

“So that was, you know, the family was very generous with their time.”

Then came the shot, as she added, "I don't know what happened," in terms of Vance’s politics, claiming that perhaps power became an “aphrodisiac” for him.

Joy Behar then stated, "He had a whole different personality in those days than he has now.

"A lot of people out there are like that. ‘The Invasion of the Body Snatchers,’ I think, is the name of that movie."

The movie, which was directed by Ron Howard, was ripped by critics, clearly politics playing a role in their reviews.

For instance, Variety's Peter Debruge wrote, "It was that dimension of Vance’s narrative that clearly attracted director Ron Howard and producer Brian Grazer — both self-avowed liberals, who may have created a monster by legitimizing his origin story, much as ‘The Apprentice’ producer Mark Burnett did by giving Trump a reality TV spotlight back in 2004.”

Like I said, they all seemed more upset about Vance being put on the national stage rather than actually judging the merits of the film.

I am actually reading the book now, then I will watch the movie to see how accurate they are in their criticism.
