John Ramsey expresses new hope of breakthrough in daughter's unsolved murder case

The murder of young beauty pageant contestant JonBenet Ramsey took hold of the nation's attention decades ago, and now, thanks to a new Netflix documentary, new breakthroughs in the unsolved case may be in the offing.

As the Daily Mail reports, the deceased child's father, John Ramsay, recently revealed that he had received a letter from a woman stating that her ex-husband is the one who took JonBenet's life, shedding new light on the cold case.

Haunting letter received

According to Mr. Ramsey, the letter was jarring in its simplicity, stating, “I've kept this inside for as long as I can – please, please call me.”

The author of the letter also included a phone number where she could presumably be reached.

Eager to gain new insight into the tragedy that tore his family apart so many years ago, John Ramsey dialed that number immediately, but no answer was forthcoming.

Though some may have found the scenario to be another disappointing dead end, Mr. Ramsey now has renewed hope for new leads, thanks to a recently released Netflix series taking a fresh look at the case.

With millions of eyes on the documentary program Cold Case: Who Killed JonBenet Ramsey, the aggrieved father harbors optimism that new technology and burgeoning interest in solving the case will lead to the answers he has sought for nearly 30 years.

A father's unyielding hope

Acknowledging the influx of false leads and crank contacts that may come from the Netflix offering, John Ramsey is eager to see where the probe may go now that a new generation of true crime aficionados have turned their attention to the case.

“You know, the police were doing nothing and had done nothing for 28 years, quite frankly, other than trying to explain away the evidence so they could prosecute [JonBenet's mother] or me,” he said.

Ramsey continued, “And they couldn't do it so they thought, 'oh well, we know who did it, but we can't prove it so we'll just forget about it.'”

“I think the documentary has brought a lot of renewed interest and it has kept pressure on the police to do their job,” he further declared.

Countering Ramsey's contention that the Boulder Police Department had failed to pursue the evidence in his daughter's case, Chief Steve Redfearn said last month that he welcomes the renewed attention and remains committing to solving the murder, but whether JonBenet's remaining family ever receives the justice and closure it deserves, only time will tell.
