Biden takes not-so-subtle swipe at Pelosi by urging stock trading ban
Ever since she orchestrated the ouster of President Joe Biden from his own re-election campaign this summer, speculation has been rife about lingering ill will between the two longtime friends and political allies.
In the wake of Biden's recent comments in support of a ban on stock trading among members of Congress, something in which Pelosi has regularly engaged, it appears clear that the bad blood persists and may not subside anytime soon, as Mediaite reports.
Biden takes aim
The notion that Biden is using his bully pulpit to get some degree of revenge on Pelosi was raised this week by DNC finance committee member Lindy Li.
According to Li, Biden has pent-up anger toward Pelosi over her behind-the-scenes machinations that led to his withdrawal from the presidential race.
Biden did this, according to Li, with his statement urging a prohibition on what amounts to insider trading within the halls of Congress.
“I don't know how you look your constituents in the eye and know because the job they gave you, gave you the inside track to make more money,” a pattern of conduct that has drawn scrutiny – not to mention millions of dollars – to Pelosi and her family for years.
Li is not the only one suggesting that Biden's statement was clearly targeted at the former House speaker, with Fox News' Kevin Corke suggesting that the president made his statement because “he still has a bone to pick with Rep. Nancy Pelosi. He's still very angry that he got summarily pushed aside, and he's finally saying that no one in Congress should be3 able to trade on the inside information, and you know who's notorious for that? Nancy Pelosi.”
“Burn the whole thing down”
According to Emily Goodin of the Daily Mail, the dig at Pelosi may just be an initial salvo in Joe and Jill Biden's plan to “burn the whole thing down” on their way out of D.C.
Goodin posits that the Bidens “have been quietly sharpening the metaphorical carving knives, with their sights set firmly on the one-time allies they perceive as having wronged them,” with Pelosi and the Obamas on their list.
A Washington insider said, “Jill views Democrats on Capitol Hill, the [wider] party, the Obamas, staff inside and outside the White House, the media, and all of Washington, D.C. with such misguided resentment that I can't imagine she [isn't] encouraging [Joe] to burn the whole thing down, despite his better judgment.”
Now that donors are reportedly expressing reluctance to fund a presidential library for Biden, the family's ire may become even more intense and cause them to let everyone know where the Democratic Party's bodies are buried.
For better or worse, even though the Bidens are poised to depart the White House, the president himself recently declared, “we're not going away,” and that may well strike fear in the hearts of countless D.C. liberals during what is for the, the highly traumatic transition to Trump.
