Florida abortion rights group agrees to pay fine for election fraud
Floridians Protecting Freedom is an organization that had dreams of getting abortion rights enshrined into Florida's constitution just a short time ago.
Now, they've failed their goal AND are being forced to pay $328,000 for "alleged fraud in the petition-gathering process."
The $328,000 fine was levied by the Department of State’s Office of Elections Crimes and Security against Floridians Protecting Freedom after "the owner of a local petition circulation business suspected that eight of his employees had turned in more than 600 fraudulent petitions because of inconsistencies in handwriting and incorrect birth dates."
The department brought the fine against Floridians Protecting Freedom after a preliminary report found that the group's efforts amounted to "widespread election fraud."
Floridians Protecting Freedom was the sponsor of Amendment 4, which needed 60% approval at the polls in November to make abortion a legal right according to Florida's constitution.
Despite losing at the polls and withdrawing their challenge against their fine, the group is still working hard to make abortion legal in Florida.
"We all will continue to look at the ways in which we can ensure that reproductive freedom is seen in Florida and that these abortion bans come to an end," said Keisha Mulfort, spokesperson for the state’s American Civil Liberties Union affiliate. Mulfort worked on the Yes on 4 campaign.
Floridians Protecting Freedom was NOT happy about being fined for election fraud, so they sought to challenge the fine in court. While they did experience a temporary win in federal court, the victory was short-lived.
Mark Walker, chief judge of the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Florida, dismissed Floridians Protecting Freedom's suit against the Florida Department of Health.
It really is sad just how far some people in this country are willing to go to try to deny some babies the right to live.
Instead of spending money on the adoption and care of these children, these groups use their time, money, and other resources to say that these children should have been killed before they were born.
It's not compassionate to let unborn children die. In fact, a lot of people believe that abortion is murder.
If abortion was as great of a thing as liberals pretend that it is, then it should have gotten enough votes to pass in Florida, and liberals wouldn't have to stoop to illegal methods to try to ram the law through.
