House passes spending bill with zero Democrat nay votes

Did Christmas come early for America's liberals?

Breitbart.com is saying it might have, referring to Speaker Mike Johnson "extending spending levels overwhelmingly opposed by Republicans earlier this year."

Instead of coming up with a new plan to fund the government through the remainder of the fiscal year, the House of Representatives simply extended what was negotiated back in February and March 2024 with Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, a Democrat from New York, and President Joe Biden.

Zero Democrats voted against the bill, which is a staggering fact when you consider that Republicans should be controlling the House right now. The GOP has the majority and the speaker of the House is a Republican, so why are liberals the ones walking away from the negotiating table with the biggest smiles on their faces?

Whether Republicans simply wanted to get home for the holidays, or they just wanted to get SOMETHING done, it's incredible how many of them flipped their stance on these spending levels that were "overwhelmingly opposed" by the GOP earlier this year.

Only 34 Republicans opposed the bill, with 14 missing the vote to be home for the holidays and a whopping 196 voting for it.

Breitbart blamed "the whiff of eggnog" for Republicans settling for the deal.

This was Johnson's third attempt to get something passed. His funding bill that had been negotiated with Democrats fell apart a short time ago when Republicans came out in overwhelming opposition to it.

Republicans were furious that Johnson had sat down with Democrats instead of his own party and blamed him for "attaching an astonishing amount of Democrat priorities to what was characterized as a continuing resolution, and for dropping the bill in their laps at the last minute."

As Johnson's first deal collapsed, Donald Trump stepped in. According to Breitbart, "Trump demanded the stripping of the Democrat giveaways in the bill and instead to attach provisions to address the debt limit, which must be lifted or waived mid-2025."

Trump thought he had gotten the job done, but that bill ended up falling apart.

Johnson then drafted a bill that he thought Democrat leader Hakeem Jeffries would like. Jeffries and the rest of liberals LOVED it. Without exception, every single Democrat voted in favor of the bill.

The were joined by a fair number of Republicans as well.

Do you blame Johnson for negotiating this deal, or did he do what he should have done to avoid this country shutting down?
