REPORT: OR Election Official Set to Resign
One state we rarely hear about election issues is Oregon, but that has not been the case recently.
The state made national headlines this election over the alleged registering of noncitizens to voter rolls.
With a new Secretary of State coming in, Elections Director Molly Woon decided to cut and run before being fired.
Time to Go
In November, Tobias Read, who is currently the state treasurer, won the election for Secretary of State, replacing LaVonne Griffin-Valade.
These are all Democrats, but Read, by all signs, is not happy with the job that Woon has been doing.
So, Wood announced that she would be leaving her post in anticipation of being fired.
Wood stated, “In lieu of removal by the incoming administration, I submit my resignation from the position of Elections Director at the Secretary of State, effective 1/14/2025.”
In September, it was reported that hundreds of noncitizens were put on voter rolls and remained there since 2021.
Audits of the current voter rolls also showed roughly 1,600 people who had not proven citizenship.
A new program that was put in place to automatically register voters was also being questioned, as it was reported that nearly 55,000 people had been added to voter roles of “unknown citizenship.”
Woon was not alone in resigning, as numerous other top staffers in the office of the Secretary of State have left in anticipation of the new administration coming in.
Audit Director Kip Memmott, Chief of Staff Ben Morris, Deputy Secretary of State Cherly Myers, and Legislative Director Kathy Wai have also tendered their resignations.
I know I have said this before, but I continue to be baffled at how loose Democrat election officials remain with all scrutiny being paid to elections these days.
The most amusing aspect of this is that they call the demand for proof of citizenship voter oppression as if it is a horrible thing to ensure the person pulling the handle is who they say they are: an actual citizen of this country.
