Biden Appointees at Risk Because of Decision by Joe Biden

It would appear that our old friend Sean Spicer was playing chess while Joe Biden was playing checkers.

Spicer, if you recall, had been appointed to the Board of Visitors to the United States Naval Academy by Donald Trump before leaving office.

Spicer was fired by Joe Biden from this position before his term was over, which was apparently all part of the plan.

Removing Biden Appointees

For positions like this, presidents will often stock them with their allies, but they are largely ceremonial, so these appointments are generally left alone.

Biden, however, purged all of Trump’s loyalists, including Spicer and Kellyanne Conway, who had been appointed to the board of the Air Force Academy.

When Trump’s appointments were fired, then-White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki stated, "I will let others evaluate whether they think Kellyanne Conway and Sean Spicer and others were qualified or not political, to serve on these boards.

"But the president's qualification requirements are not your party registration. They are whether you're qualified to serve and whether you are aligned with the values of this administration."

The matter was litigated, with the firings ultimately holding up, which is apparently precisely what Spicer wanted all along.

When the ruling was handed down, the judge stated that termed appointment or not, the president has the authority to fire anyone he sees fit.

Spicer took a victory lap after the ruling, stating, “What no one ever understood was this was not about actually getting back on the board, because my term had been expired for months. It was forcing them to argue in the affirmative that they had the ultimate authority to fire anybody at any time, which they did.

“And the court accepted that. So the Biden administration is now on record in court, and the court agreed that the president had absolute authority to fire anyone he wants.”

That decision will enable Donald Trump to purge the government of all Biden appointments now, something Trump did not do during his first term, and it came back to haunt him.

Something tells me that the first month of this administration is going to be a complete and utter bloodbath in terms of cleaning house.
