‘The View’: AOC Has Been ‘Demonized’
Rep. Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) made her first big push to grab a leadership position during the latest House party leadership elections.
AOC was hoping to grab the spot as the ranking member of the House Oversight Committee.
Word on the street was that Speaker Emerita Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) was working the phone lines behind the scenes to ensure she did not get it, supporting Rep. Gerry Connolly (D-VA), and it worked.
Too Bad
The position used to be held by Rep. Jamie Raskin (D-MD), who will now be the ranking member of the House Judiciary Committee after Rep. Nadler (D-N.Y.) stepped down.
Pelosi and AOC have never really seen eye-to-eye, and Pelosi has always had an issue with AOC and her popularity on social media.
Pelosi does not like being challenged, and AOC did more than her fair share of that during her brief stint in Congress, hence the resistance by Pelosi to seeing AOC elevated to a ranking member position.
The ladies on “The View” did not take kindly to AOC being defeated.
Co-host Sunny Hostin stated, “She’s been demonized as this too progressive, far-left person, and I want to try to set the record straight because if she is too progressive, then the Democrats really are going to lose the working class because this is her platform.
“The key issues: healthcare for all people, affordable housing, rebuild the unions, federal job guarantee, free public college. … If that is too progressive for this country, then that’s a problem for the Democrats, and that’s a problem, quite frankly, for this country.”
Co-host Alyssa Farah Griffin did not agree, commenting, “A lot of this country does not support, for example, the Green New Deal, which would actually crush jobs across this country.
“It would actually make international travel virtually impossible to do because of some of the regulations that would be in place.”
I am no fan of AOC, but I do believe older Democrats in the party need to start to step aside and allow the new breed of Democrat to start to step into leadership roles.
Connolly is 74 years old, so again, how can he possibly relate to the issues of the average Democrat when he is nearly twice the age of the average person in this country?
The old guard was handed a huge loss in the last election, and they are still not getting the message, which is great for conservatives.
AOC is only 35 years old, so she has plenty of time, and eventually, she will rise to a leadership position if she keeps getting re-elected. Having said that, as long as Pelosi is behind the scenes calling the shots, AOC is going to have to be content to stand pat.
