Supreme Court About to Hear Planned Parenthood Defunding Case
This week, the Supreme Court took on a case that will have liberals and Democrats sitting on the edge of their seats.
The court is hearing arguments in a case that originated in South Carolina to defund Planned Parenthood.
If South Carolina is successful in the case, Planned Parenthood will no longer receive state funds from the Medicaid program.
Healthcare or Abortion Factory
When you ask a Democrat about Planned Parenthood, they will say it provides healthcare to women that is much needed and that they would not be able to get anywhere else.
If you ask a conservative about Planned Parenthood, they will say it is nothing more than an abortion factory, and taxpayers should not be forced to contribute to abortions.
South Carolina Governor Henry McMaster, a Republican, believes Planned Parenthood is “unqualified” to qualify for family planning services funded by Medicaid.
He stated, “Taxpayer dollars should never fund abortion providers like Planned Parenthood.
“In 2018, I issued an executive order to end this practice in South Carolina. I’m confident the U.S. Supreme Court will agree with me that states shouldn’t be forced to subsidize abortions.”
Planned Parenthood operates two clinics in the state, but this case will have a much larger impact around the country, as it will set a precedent for defunding these clinics from state and federal funding.
This issue came before the court several years ago, but the court kicked the case back down to the lower courts.
South Carolina is being represented by the Alliance Defending Freedom (ADF), whose senior counsel, John Bursch, stated, “Pro-life states like South Carolina should be free to determine that Planned Parenthood and other entities that peddle abortion are not qualified to receive taxpayer funding through Medicaid.
“Congress did not unambiguously create a right for Medicaid recipients to drag states into federal court to challenge those decisions, so no such right exists.”
Jenny Black, president and CEO of Planned Parenthood South Atlantic, responded, “Every person should be able to access quality, affordable health care from a provider they trust, no matter their income or insurance status.
“This case is politics at its worst: anti-abortion politicians using their power to target Planned Parenthood and block people who use Medicaid as their primary form of insurance from getting essential health care like cancer screenings and birth control.”
This all comes down to how Planned Parenthood will be perceived by the court.
These facilities operate under the charade of offering other health services, but the primary source of income for Planned Parenthood is abortion services.
Roughly 95% of all pregnancy resolution services offered by Planned Parenthood are abortions, and the facilities perform about 40% of all abortions in this country (they perform about 80 abortions to every adoption referral).
