TikTok Asks Supreme Court to Block Law That Could Ban App
A new law is about to go into effect that would send the youth of this country into a tailspin.
Early next year, a law is set to take effect that would ban TikTok.
Trying to beat the new law's implementation, TikTok is now asking the Supreme Court to block the law from going into effect.
Big fight
There was a time when Donald Trump was all for banning TikTok, but once Democrats got on board, he suddenly reversed course.
Trump declared that since TikTok was owned by a Chinese company, it was putting user information at risk of being captured by the CCP.
Initially, Democrats laughed at Trump, but then they started to realize that he was right, and eventually, a law was passed that would ban TikTok, which is supposed to go into effect on January 19, 2025, just before Trump’s inauguration.
Trump now seems to have a soft spot for the app, but that is likely to do with the fact that a lot of the influencers who helped Trump in 2024 make their money on TikTok.
TikTok’s attorneys have filed a motion with the Supreme Court to keep the app active, arguing, "The Act will shutter one of America’s most popular speech platforms the day before a presidential inauguration.
"This, in turn, will silence the speech of Applicants and the many Americans who use the platform to communicate about politics, commerce, arts, and other matters of public concern.”
The funny thing about this is that both parties are as equally divided as everyone else about this.
There are both Democrats and Republicans arguing the platform should be left alone as well as those that say that unless the Chinese-based ByteDance sells the company, it should be blocked in the United States.
The court’s first reaction to the filing will tell us a lot, so we will keep our eyes and ears open to see if the motion is accepted and how the court goes about scheduling a hearing on this.
