Arizona Looking to Replicate Florida Election Rules
If you have been following our elections the last few cycles, you know that we always seem to have the same problems in the same states.
One of those states is Arizona, which again has problems in two counties, the two biggest counties, during this election cycle.
According to new reports, Arizona officials are not looking to replicate Florida to ensure faster and safer election results.
Get It Together
I have stated many times that the problems that some states have during the election regarding mail-in ballots are ridiculous.
The roadmap is in place in numerous states that deal with large amounts of mail-in ballots every election but always have their results in on election night, with Florida being a great example.
If your state struggles, why not look to emulate the more successful states to make your state’s process more effective?
It would appear that Arizona officials finally got that message.
Arizona Senate President Warren Petersen is now pushing for election reform, similar to what Florida has already put in place.
Peterson stated, “Today me and my colleagues will be introducing legislation to get election results night of. AZ will no longer be the laughing stock of the nation and the last to announce electoral votes. The bill will incorporate the key differences between AZ and FL.”
Incoming state House Speaker Steve Montenegro added, “Arizonans deserve timely and transparent election results. House Republicans will introduce legislation to move up the deadline for dropping off early ballots, ensuring counties have adequate time to process them before Election Day.”
Democrats, of course, are already fighting the reforms, with Sen.-elect Analise Ortiz, D-Phoenix posting, “This is voter suppression plain and simple. Voters overwhelmingly support accessibility over speed of results. Let every eligible voter VOTE.”
Governor Katie Hobbs had a similar response, but in reality, with how many days are available for early voting, there is just no excuse for these late election results.
And I would beg to differ with Montenegro because most people I have talked to would prefer election results on the night of because the longer the results drag on, the more the losing side will question those results.
