South Korea Imposes Travel Ban on President Yoon
It would appear that South Korea is far quicker to react when its president is clearly going off the rails.
President Yoon Suk Yeol has had an eventful couple of weeks, even declaring martial law against his people.
After reversing his order, the next piece of business appears to have been locking Yoon in place before he really causes some damage.
Stay Put
According to reports, Yoon really went off the deep end when he declared martial law.
As we reported, his administration quickly reversed his order and started to take measures to prevent Yoon from going on full tilt.
At the top of that list was a travel restriction being put on Yoon.
The opposition has already tried to impeach Yoon once, an effort that was defeated, but I am not so sure that will be the case when they go after him again, which they are expected to do next week.
While the martial law claim is being investigated, local authorities have restricted Yoon’s movements so that he cannot leave the country during this investigation.
Just as we have here in the United States, a sitting president in South Korea cannot be prosecuted while in office.
However, this immunity does not include acts of rebellion or treason.
If Yoon is removed from office via impeachment, it will be the second president in the last decade to be removed from office.
In 2017, President Park Geun-hye was removed from office in a major corruption scandal that rocked South Korea.
Since Yoon’s martial law claim, the three military leaders who were involved in the declaration have been suspended.
Current military leaders have already come forward to say they would not follow another such order if issued by Yoon.
Even though Yoon is clearly in political trouble, believe it or not, he, technically, still maintains control over the military per the country’s constitution.
