Beloved LA radio host dies at 44

A popular Los Angeles radio show host has passed away.

The New York Post reports that Robin Ayers's death was announced over the weekend by KBLA Talk 1580.

The host of The RA Report with Robin Ayers, which was broadcast every weekday from 6 to 7 p.m. died at the age of 44.

According to a statement released by the radio show, Ayers's death followed a battle with cancer.

Here is what we know:

The Post reports, "Though her cause of death wasn’t revealed, Ayers last year said she was battling leiomyosarcoma, a rare and aggressive cancer that affects soft tissues, typically in the abdomen or uterus."

The Mayo Clinic confirms:

Leiomyosarcoma is a rare type of cancer that begins in smooth muscle tissue . . . Leiomyosarcoma most often begins in the abdomen or uterus. It starts as a growth of abnormal cells and often grows quickly to invade and destroy normal body tissue. Signs and symptoms of leiomyosarcoma depend on where the cancer starts. They might include pain, weight loss, and a growing lump or swelling that can be felt through the skin.

This comes as Ayers's career, according to the Post, was really taking off.

Per the outlet:

Ayers’ near decade-long radio reporting career started at Afterbuzz TV as a podcast host in August 2016, where she remained for three years before pivoting to her entertainment reporting at theJasmineBRAND. It didn’t take long for her to find her home at KBLA Talk 1580 and finally host her own show with her name on it.

Tributes from listeners demonstrate just how big of a loss this is for the community.

"A bright light"

"On behalf of her precious family, it is with profound sadness that KBLA Talk 1580 announces the passing of our beloved colleague Robin Ayers on Thursday, December 05," KBLA Talk 1580's statement reads.

The station goes on to describe Ayers as "a bright light" with a "radiant smile" that could be felt even "through the radio.

The statement reads:

Robin was a bright light. You could see her radiant smile through the radio. We all respected her immense talent, loved her jovial spirit, celebrated her love of family, and honored her faith in God.

The radio station, which included a photograph of Ayers along with its post, went on to state that its "thoughts and prayers are with Robin’s entire family, most especially her husband Rob and her twin daughters Brooklyn and Madison."

The statement concludes, "We ask you to join us in praying for the Ayers family as they navigate the difficult days ahead. At the appropriate time, KBLA Talk 1580 will offer a special tribute to Robin."
