NYC Mayor Eric Adams not ruling out joining Republican Party

The mayor of New York City, Eric Adams, is a Democrat. At least for now.

Adams has suggested the possibility that he may rejoin the Republican party. In a recent interview, Adams was asked the point-blank question:

“Would you ever consider rejoining the GOP?”

His response made for some interesting headlines.

“The party that’s the most important for me is the American Party. I’m a part of the American Party. I love this country. This is the home of the free, land of the brave. My 19-year-old nephew died on the fields of Vietnam protecting what this city and this country represents, and that’s the party I’m going to always be a member of,” Adams said.

Adams did not stop there.

“We need to move away from identifying, classifying ourselves as anything other than Americans. I'm an American, and I'm going to continue to say that. So, no matter what party I'm on or vote on, I'm going to push for the American values,” he continued in the interview.

“I've been a Democrat for many years, and I'm going to run for my reelection as a Democrat. But my focus is the American people and the people of New York City. And those who don't like it, they would cancel me. And I say, cancel me. I'm for America,” Adams concluded.

Considering the fact that Mayor Adams has also been facing an indictment, it is interesting timing.

Many members of his current party think he may simply be attempting to get closer to President Donald Trump to potentially gain a pardon.

“He’s changing parties as a matter of political survival. I think that’s a terrible reason for anyone to change political parties. I’m an independent because I’m an independent thinker,” said attorney Jim Walden.

While conservative voters would certainly love an ally in deep-blue New York, would they be able to trust Adams even if he did switch parties?

Do you think Adams is considering joining the Republican Party for the right reasons? Or is he only trying to save himself?
