Trump Names Kash Patel as Nominee for FBI Director to Replace Wray

Donald Trump just sent a shockwave through the Department of Justice.

This weekend, Donald Trump announced that Kash Patel would be his nominee for FBI Director.

Both sides of the aisle reacted rather strongly to the nomination, so this is far from a sure thing.

Big Stick

I will be the first person to tell you that the FBI is in need of an overhaul, but I am just not sure that Kash Patel is the person to do it.

Trump disagrees, announcing, “Kash is a brilliant lawyer, investigator, and America First fighter who has spent his career exposing corruption, defending Justice, and protecting the American People.

“He played a pivotal role in uncovering the Russia, Russia, Russia Hoax, standing as an advocate for truth, accountability, and the Constitution.”

Patel is a brilliant legal mind, and he proved that many times working for Rep. Devin Nunes (R-CA) in the past, but he is also a bit of a conspiracy theorist, and that terrifies me in terms of him running the FBI.

Had Patel been given the role of Deputy Director, with the primary task of seeking out rogue elements and removing them from the agency, I would have had zero problems.

There are people on both sides of the aisle that will resist this pick, many voicing the same concerns I have, so this is far from a lock in terms of getting through the nomination process.

I want to be clear... Director Wray needs to be fired, as do many other leadership roles in the agency.

I think the core of the FBI is filled with agents who want to do their jobs, so I don’t see a massive overhaul at the core, only among leadership.

I think the agency needs to refocus on its mission and get back to being the best law enforcement agency in the world, and I am really hoping Patel can do that without going off the reservation.

If he does get approved, I hope I am completely wrong about him and that he is overwhelmingly successful.

But honestly, I would be surprised if he makes it through the confirmation process as there are numerous Republicans who have already expressed significant concern regarding this appointment.
