Trump Already Endorsing New House Candidates to Replace Administration Picks
Donald Trump has been announcing appointments for his administration at a record pace.
Unfortunately for Speaker Johnson, many of those appointments have been from the House.
Trump is now trying to help Johnson, announcing his endorsements for all the upcoming special elections that will be taking place.
The Replacements
Even though Trump is raiding the House and Senate, it does appear that we should be okay in terms of preserving the majority.
From what I have seen, Trump has been pulling members that are in either red states or red districts, such as Rep. Elise Stefanik in New York.
Come the new year, we will start to see primary races, and likely a flood of special elections in the spring.
In some cases, the candidates have not even been announced yet, as Trump seems to be pressuring them to run with his endorsement.
For instance, in Florida, Reps. Gaetz and Waltz will have to be replaced.
Trump is already supporting former GOP state Sen. Randy Fine and the current chief financial officer for the Sunshine State, Jimmy Patronis Jr.
Trump has yet to name a replacement for Stefanik, but word on the street is that he is looking for a MAGA candidate who can replace his future UN Ambassador.
As it stands right now, the GOP holds a 219-213 edge, and the GOP will need to hold at least 218 seats if it wants to keep the majority.
Rep. Steve Scalise (R-LA) recently discussed this, stating, "I know he's already pulled a few really talented people out of the House – hopefully no more for a little while until special elections come up, but it shows you the talent that we have and the ability we have.”
Trump’s success will be dictated by the GOP holding both the House and Senate, which Speaker Johnson (R-LA) just commented on.
He stated, "President Trump fully understands and appreciates the math here, and it's just a numbers game. You know, we believe we're going to have a larger majority than we had last time. It's too early to handicap it, but we are optimistic about that.
"But every single vote will count, because if someone gets ill or has a car accident or a late flight on their plane, then it affects the votes on the floor.
“So, I think he and the administration are well attuned to that. I don't expect that we will have more members leaving, but I'll leave that up to him."
If I am being honest, I would have preferred for Trump to leave the House and Senate alone.
I get that he wanted to reward his loyalists, but at the same time, if we don’t have the majority, we have nothing.
Let’s hope the party was not overconfident in raiding these seats.
